Junior Program

Our Saturday sessions operate as two squads from 1-3pm – the Junior Squad and the Development Squad. Sessions for both groups have two coaches to ensure we can respond to any incidents and meet our child safety commitments.

  • the Junior Squad is for all ages with the focus on skill development and foundational race skills rather than race participation.
  • the Development Squad is targeted to those with more experience (stability, technique etc) who want to focus on racing, team selection and developing in the sport. The group will be supported to attend one local race each term, plus the race hosted by INCC Yarra Paddlers in July.

Young people in the Development Squad are also able to train  on weekday afternoons (Monday to Thursday) and have an individualised training program. The weekday sessions (4.15-6.15pm) comprise approximately 1 hour on the water plus 30-45 minutes of ergo and fitness training.

Junior Squad members have the option to start training with the Development Squad once they have the necessary skills.

The program is managed by Chris Burns with the support of a coaching team, all of whom are qualified flatwater coaches with current working with children and first-aid credentials.

Fees

To ensure the program is affordable for families, the club provides a significant financial contribution towards the program. Fees are currently $160/term for one session, ranging up to $520 for five sessions per week.
