INCC Yarra Paddlers has had a popular junior program for many years. In 2021 we are offering separate programs for primary and secondary school-age children. Both programs will run on Saturday afternoons during school terms from our clubhouse in Fairfield Park. Participants will develop flatwater paddling skills and have the opportunity to try sprint and marathon disciplines.
Our program for primary school-aged children, the Paddleroos, will start at noon and finish at 2 pm. The emphasis is on having fun while learning how to paddle, develop strength and fitness, and confidence on the water.
The Junior Squad for young people at secondary school will run between 2 and 4 pm. The program aims to support the development of young paddlers, including those who want to compete.
Our junior programs are led by qualified and experienced kayaking coaches with first-aid and CPR certificates, all of whom have current Working with Children checks.
We are planning for the groups to attend at least one Paddle Victoria event each term. These events are on Saturdays or Sundays and held on different waterways around Melbourne. Parents are encouraged to come along to support the group, although the club can assist with transport if needed.
The fee for each participant is $120 per term, which includes junior club membership of INCC Yarra Paddlers and registration with Paddle Victoria.
