Earlier this year I came across with this amazing opportunity and decided to dive into it. My home country and home canoe club offered to help to me with coaching and training over the summer.
So long story short, I’m packing up and heading back for the European summer to train with the best of the best female canoeist in the world in Hungry. I’m leaving this Saturday night and no wasting time, training first thing Monday morning. This is perfect timing as the Hungarian National Canoe team will arrive back from the European Games at the same time as me. (21st June – 1st July European Games – Minsk, Belarus). I’m hoping they will do amazing so the first couple sessions will be gentle on me. I’ll be based in Gyor; a couple of our club members might have heard the name before. The city has hosted three Marathon World Championships, the most recent was in 2015 when 11 INCC club members represented Australia.
During the summer I’ll be following the Hungarian team around to various training camps and hopefully I can race in some of the Hungarian events. Before the World Championships in August, I’ll try to reconnect with the Australian team and join the World Championships training camp.
I’ll be fortunate enough even if I have not qualified to the 2019 Sprint World Championships (Szeged, Hungary). I’ll be working at the event and supporting our mighty Australian sprint team.
After the event my focus will be to prepare for the Marathon World Championships, so back to Gyor to train with the marathon team until I come back in September for my Citizenship test.
Back for a month and then off to China.
