INCC Yarra Paddlers has had a popular junior program for many years. In 2021 we are offering separate programs for primary and secondary school-age children. To kick-start the new look program we held a successful ‘come and try’ session for juniors last Saturday. We had a great turn-out following our promotion efforts through local schools and via our corporate sponsor, Nelson Alexander.
Thanks must go to Sally Miller for organising the event and for all the volunteer coaches and other helpers. The kids had a great time and several of the parents looking on jealously, with one mum taking the opportunity to have a go when things quietened down later in the day.
How will it work?
Both programs will run on Saturday afternoons during school terms from our clubhouse in Fairfield Park.
Our program for primary school-aged children, the Paddleroos, will start at noon and finish at 2 pm. The emphasis is on having fun while learning how to paddle, develop strength and fitness, and confidence on the water.
The Junior Squad for young people at secondary school will run between 2 and 4 pm. The program aims to support the development of young paddlers, including those who want to compete.
Our junior programs are led by qualified and experienced kayaking coaches with first-aid and CPR certificates, all of whom have current Working with Children checks.
We are planning for the groups to attend at least one Paddle Victoria event each term. These events are on Saturdays or Sundays and held on different waterways around Melbourne. The club can assist with transport if needed.
The fee for each participant is $120 per term, which includes junior club membership of INCC Yarra Paddlers and registration with Paddle Victoria. The sign-up form for the program is below.
