INCC  Clubhouse Facilities and Club Boat Use – New Policy

Members should note that a new policy document has been approved by the INCC committee.  This policy was created to assist all members to manage our enviable club facilities and boat fleet and provide fair access to all club members. The policy provides a set of clear guidelines, consolidated over the years as our membership has significantly increased, along with demands on our facilities.

Members should read this short document, but particularly the first page which outlines the basic principles and philosophy.  A hard copy will also be placed on the notice board at the club and posted on the website.  The committee appreciates your co-operation, for the benefit of all members, in abiding by these rules.

   Talk by the Trans-Tasman kayakers

Justin Jones and James Castrission were the first two men to cross the Tasman Sea unsupported in a kayak also recording the longest trans oceanic kayaking expedition in history. Their journey took 62 days, 3318kms with 10 metre swells, howling winds of over 50 knots, severe food and sleep deprivation and sharks encircling. It was a huge triumph that awarded them Adventurers of the Year in 08.

World Expeditions has organized a national speaking tour for them next month which will be their first public appearance to tell of the epic journey that was.

They have been mentoring Jessica Watson for her solo journey which they'll also be commenting on.

- Friday 20 November in Melbourne.

The tickets are on sale from our website here

http://www.worldexpeditions.com/au/index.php?section=adventure_news&id=238012

$19.50 for tickets and book sales/signings will be available at each event as well as the opportunity to meet James and Justin.

Final Day of racing saw Senior Women's doubles and Senior Men's doubles, with Peta Wait and Sarah O'Connell-Brechin finishing in 12th place in the women's race, won by Anne Lolk and Henriette Engel of Denmark. Tide was low in the morning, making the portage a steep climb up the ramp for the women. Then Ivor Morgan with Mark Rantall 13th and David Cole with Andrew Stimpson finishing 17th in the men's race. Racing was hard and fast, with ideal conditions on the water. Emilio Merchan and Alvaro Fuiza of Spain, won in a sprint over the line, defeating last year's champion Ant Stott of South Africa paddling with Shaun Rubenstein from Jakub Adam and Petr Jambor of the Czech republic.

Update #7.
Today was the first day of racing, being the Master's World Cup. Competing were Michael Leverett in the Men's K1 35 - 39 years, Cameron McGill in the Men's K1 40 - 44 years, Rob Russell and Andrew Coutts in the Men's K1 50 - 54 years, and Sarah O'Connell-Brechin in the Women's 35 - 39 years. Today also happened to be Andrew's 50th birthday, so what a way to celebrate - your first world championships race! Racing was delayed as two river cruisers made their way through the course, one leaving the lock, and the second entering (some 300 metres upstream from the top turn. Racing began in ideal conditions, with very little wind or river flow. The tide fell during the race, meaning that the portage would require a steep transition up a ramp, before proceeding down hill along a course sandy track. Mick, despite a slow start, raced comfortably, and in a perfect preparation for the weekend's racing comfortably won the Men's 35 - 39 years Gold Medal.

  Murray Marathon 2008·

It was wonderful to see so many INCC members take part in the 40th RED CROSS MURRAY MARATHON this year, either doing full distance or participating in relay teams for Camberwell Grammar School, Methodist Ladies College or as INCC members. The camaraderie along the river was really noticeable this year and a greater feeling of being an INCC member no matter what team you were actually paddling in! Below is a list of members who took part. I am sure there will be many great articles in the Washrider this year as people relate their amazing experiences.  Full distance paddlers Ben Calder, Dan Wiseman, Joe Speekman, Matt Grogan, Moirin Quinn and Ben Calder all started paddling about 3 months before the marathon and all came over the finish line.  Moirin paddled full distance in a TK2 with her partner Ben and breastfed their 3 month old daughter at checkpoints along the way!!!! What a legend! Candice Charles and Andrew Cox overcame loss of a rudder in their K2 and completed in another K2 that they were not as familiar with and still managed to complete the race. It was a great effort from all the full distance paddlers!! The "Paddle Pops" came 2nd in the Open relay, "Where's Gav" came in 4th and the "Blue Belles" 14th in a field of 19. .MLC came 1st, 3rd and 6th in the Womens School Relay and Camberwell came 2nd and 6th in the Open School Relay and 1st, 6th and 7th in the 16 years School Relay. Marcus Whittaker participated in the Holden Cup with 3 old Camberwell Grammar boys and they came in 2nd and Briony Morgan participated in a team that came 5th. How they do thee number change overs and stay in those K1's I will never know!
